“The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it” – Arnold H. Glasgow

Welcome to the Patient Cook. Here I will happily share with you my passion for all things that take time, as well as some sneaky speedy recipes. Meals are meant to be savored and enjoyed, and likewise, the process of preparing them.

Thank you for visiting. It is my joy to teach, share and cook with you.

About me:

I am a mother of one and a self-taught cook who is by no means exceptional, but is learning the joy of cooking with time on her side. Having completed University in 2011 and gaining full time employment, I discovered that I had few hobbies I could take with me when I moved. Enter the making of bread – this was the first of many quests upon which I embarked. Yes, it does take some time to bake a  delicious loaf. However, little compares to the smell of freshly baked bread. In this hobby, and with all that I share here on this blog, I have discovered it is worth taking the time to be a patient cook.

    1. We are of a like mind then! We’ve been tinkering with a no knead technique for a sourdough that will eventually make it onto the blog. I’m afraid our blog about living in Japan has taken over these days!

  1. Well Kara, I made 2 of your tasty recipes today for our staff “Picnic” and when asked for the recipes I referred them to your awesome blog. When I was on my daily walk this afternoon I saw a sign on a local coffee shop that said ‘ The larger you are the harder you are to kidnap – eat cake”

Any thoughts?
